Stellantis Recalls Ram and Jeep Vehicles Due To Engine Stalling

According to multiple reports by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in the United States, Stellantis is recalling over 177,000 Jeep and Ram vehicles due to separate issues that can lead to engine stalling and an increased crash risk.

The vehicles involved in the Stellantis recall include the 2021 Ram 1500 quipped with 5.7-liter eTorque engines, 2021-23 Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators, and 2022-23 Ram 1500s equipped with 3-liter diesel engines. 

According to Stellantis customer data monitoring reports, customers who have noticed their instrument-cluster warning lights turn on, fuel leaks, or excessive engine noises. 

The Ram 1500, quipped with 5.7-liter eTorque engines, has a powertrain control module software that may cause an incorrect fuel mixture condition in the engine and result in an engine stall. The Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators Ram 1500s equipped with 3-liter diesel engines have a high-pressure fuel pump manufactured by German auto supplier Bosch that could fail prematurely.

Regarding the recalled vehicles with the 5.7-liter eTorque engines, so far, the company is aware of 636 warranty claims and only one accident with no injuries potentially related to the issues. As for the cars equipped with 3-liter diesel engines, there have been 126 warranty claims. However, no accidents or injuries related to the high-pressure fuel pump issue have occurred.

Currently, individuals who have identified that their vehicles with the 5.7L eTorque engine have been recalled are eligible to have their Powertrain Control Module Calibration software updated by a dealer free of charge. Stellantis claims that owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on June 2, 2023. However, in the meantime, customers can contact FCA US, LLC, customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

Customers who have recalled vehicles equipped with 3-liter diesel engines are eligible to have their fuel pumps and possibly any related fuel system components replaced by dealers free of charge. Owners of the affected vehicles can contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
