What Brand of Artificial Tears Have Been Recalled?
Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops and Artificial Eye Ointment products were recalled after an outbreak of bacteria in a manufacturing facility led to 55 cases of infections in consumers. The products, made by Global Pharma Healthcare and distributed by EzriCare, LLC, and Delsam Pharma, are primarily sold online and used to treat eye dryness and irritation.
Using contaminated eye drops can result in eye infections and even permanent blindness. There’s been one death reportedly linked to the contamination after a victim developed a blood infection.
The bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, are commonly found on door handles, grocery carts, and restaurant tables. While not acutely common in those scenarios, direct exposure to the eye membranes causes an increased risk of serious infection. This particular strain involved in the outbreak is antibiotic-resistant as well, making the situation all the more alarming for consumers of these products.
How Do I Know if My Product Is Affected?
If you purchased any Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops, distributed by EzriCare and Delsam Pharma, you should discontinue use immediately until you have more information. According to the FDA, “the product is packaged in a bottle with a safety seal and is placed in a carton box labeled Ezricare NDC 79503-0101-15, UPC 3 79503 10115 7; Delsam Pharma’s NDC 72570-121-15, UPC 3 72570 12115 8.” It comes in blue or white packaging, identified on the FDA website here.
If you discover that you have one of the dangerous products, you can file a claim with the FDA. Then, you’ll want to seek out the assistance of an experienced personal injury law firm with experience in this area of law.
What are Eye Drop Recall 2023 Symptoms
If you’ve used Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops or Artificial Eye Ointment products and notice any of the following symptoms, you should seek medical care immediately:
Redness
Redness or irritation caused by the bacteria will occur around the area you’re treating with the drops. If the symptom persists or intensifies, seek medical attention sooner rather than later.
Sudden changes in vision
The harmful bacteria behind the recall can cause permanent blindness. Anyone that notices any changes in vision, no matter how minor, should seek an eye care specialist as soon as possible.
Pain and discomfort
Pain, discomfort, or a burning sensation in the eyes are “red flags” for infection. If you can’t seek out the help of an eye care specialist immediately, go to the emergency room for prompt medical care.
Not every brand of eye drops and artificial tears is unsafe to use. As long as you use a product not included in the recall, you should be safe from harm. News outlets have urged consumers to “stick to the brands [they] trust” moving forward and to dispose of any recalled products to ensure their safety.
When Were Eye Drops Recalled in 2023?
The FDA published an official notice of the recall on February 3rd, 2023. Since then, over 55 people have come forward after developing infections from using the contaminated products.
If you or someone you know has used these products and developed adverse health effects, a personal injury firm can help you recover the compensation you deserve for the damage you sustained.
What Bacteria Is Linked to the Eye Drop Recall 2023?
Global Pharma Healthcare’s products, Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops, and Artificial Eye Ointment are all linked to the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Although otherwise common, the bacteria can cause serious infections when administered directly to the eye. Over 55 people have fallen victim to the outbreak, and there could be more unreported cases.
An outbreak occurred within the manufacturing facility, prompting the parent company to issue a voluntary recall of their products. They’ve taken prompt action by notifying their consumers. Still, the accident should have never occurred in the first place, and the victims can fight back against the at-fault party through legal action.
What Should I Do if I Discover I’m a Victim?
If you used any of the recalled products and notice any of the symptoms of an eye infection, you should seek the care of an eye specialist or other medical professional immediately. They can better diagnose your condition, and if you’ve been affected, they can provide treatment to help mitigate the risk of harm.
After you’ve received treatment, you should speak with a lawyer and explore your legal options. Product recalls happen far too often, but as a victim, you’re entitled to compensation from the at-fault party if the event was caused by their negligence or carelessness. This case falls under those circumstances, and the right law firm can help you get involved.
Finding the right law firm, however, is not as easy as you’d expect. You have to factor in their price, experience, and the level of care you receive throughout the process. Some options might be great but cost too much, while others might have low costs but not all the resources your case needs. In either case, most people are forced to settle between one side of the spectrum or the other, but you won’t have to follow suit if you team up with Morgan and Morgan.
You shouldn’t settle for less than you deserve, and neither will we. Complete a free, no-obligation case evaluation to join the lawsuit.
What Can I Recover From the Eye Drop Recall Lawsuit?
Class action lawsuits band victims together to create a stronger, collective body. Through litigation, the victims seek to recover compensation for common and agreed-upon damages. It varies on a case-by-case basis, but it’s delivered in a lump sum that’s divided among the victims evenly, giving each a fair share of the total amount.
If you’ve been affected by contaminated eye drops, you can expect to recover:
- Medical damages
- Lost wages
- Loss of quality of life
- Permanent disfigurement compensation
You shouldn’t have to foot the bill for treatments and therapies to correct a condition that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Global Pharma Healthcare’s negligence shouldn’t go unanswered. With a successful lawsuit, they’ll be held responsible, and the victims of their carelessness will receive every penny they deserve for the harm they’ve endured.
How Can an Attorney Help After a Recall?
Product recalls affect items from food and drugs to baby toys and car parts. If there are injuries, the victims come together and form a collective legal body that files a single class action or mass tort suit against the at-fault party. This is done through one law firm or a collection of firms.
If you find yourself as the victim of a product recall, you should speak with an attorney and see if you’re eligible to join a lawsuit. They’ll ask about your situation, have you show evidence that you purchased the product and that it harmed you, and help you handle the next steps if they find that you qualify.
Speaking with an attorney not only helps you learn your legal options; It also gives you someone in your corner who knows the rules if you’re eligible to join. They can refer you to places where you get the care you need, advocate for the full value in your case, and use their legal power to hold the at-fault party fully accountable for recklessly exposing consumers to injury.
