Peloton Injury Lawsuit

Peloton is known for its high-end exercise equipment, extensive workout library, and enthusiastic instructors. But what the fitness company doesn’t want you to consider is whether its products are safe to use.

Following the tragic death of a six-year-old child and reports of dozens of additional injuries, Peloton recalled its Tread+ (“Tread Plus”) and Tread model treadmills in May, 2021. Months prior, the manufacturer recalled its PR70P Clip-In bike pedals due to numerous reports of lacerations.

These incidents illustrate a dangerous pattern of safety issues with Peloton products. If you or someone you love were injured while using a Peloton product, contact Morgan & Morgan right away.

Our attorneys understand that an injury is physically and emotionally taxing. We also understand that a stack of medical bills can make your situation that much more overwhelming. We’re here to offer our support and help you fight back.

FAQs

  • Which Peloton Products Were Recalled and Why?

Peloton recalled its Tread+ and Tread model treadmills in May, 2021, weeks after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned that dozens of people had been injured and that one person was even killed when using them.

According to the recall notice, Tread+ poses significant danger to users of all ages: “Adult users, children, pets, and objects can be pulled underneath the rear of the treadmill, posing a risk of injury or death.” A total of 125,00units were ultimately recalled.

That same day, more than 1,000 Tread model units were recalled in the United States. This machine, however, was described to have a different kind of hazard: “The touchscreen on the treadmill can detach and fall, posing a risk of injury to consumers,” the recall notice states.

In October 2020, Peloton recalled 54,000 PR70P Clip-In pedals fitted on Peloton bikes sold between July, 2013, and May, 2016. “PR70P Clip-In Pedals can break unexpectedly during use, causing laceration injuries,” reads the recall notice.

  • What Types of Injuries Have Peloton’s Products Caused?

Peloton’s Tread+ treadmill has been linked to:

    • The death of a six-year-old child who was pulled under the rear of the treadmill
    • A significant brain injury for a three-year-old child who was likewise trapped underneath the machine
    • 72 reports of adults, children, pets, and objects being sucked under the rear of the equipment
    • 29 reports of injuries to children that include second- and third-degree burn abrasions, broken bones, and lacerations

Peloton’s Tread model has been linked to:

    • 18 reports of the touchscreen loosening, including six reports of it detaching and falling
    • Multiple incidents of abrasions, cuts, and bruises

Peloton’s PR70P Clip-In pedal caused 16 leg injuries, five of which required medical care such as stitches.

  • What Should I Do if I Own One of These Products?

Do not use any of the above products. The CPSC issued an urgent warning on April 17, 2021, to stop using Tread+ treadmills. Peloton is offering a full refund on that model through November 6, 2022.
