Bard Mesh

Patients who suffered mesh complications after being transvaginally implanted with C.R. Bard's Pelvicol, PelviSoft, or PelviLace products in the repair of pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence may have legal recourse.

Vaginal meshes and slings have reportedly been linked to a number of serious complications including but not limited to mesh erosion and infection. Because the manufacturer may have failed to properly design these products and adequately warn patients and doctors about their side effects, women who suffered mesh complications may be able to file a claim seeking financial compensation.

Vaginal Sling Problems and Mesh Side Effects

Like other vaginal slings and meshes, the Bard Pelvi products have reportedly been associated with a number of mesh problems in pelvic floor reconstruction and urinary incontinence repair patients. In fact, in July 2011, the FDA released a statement that patients who were implanted transvaginally with a mesh in the repair of pelvic organ prolapse may be at a greater risk for complications than women pursuing other surgical options. These vaginal mesh complications can reportedly include the following:

  • Vaginal mesh erosion
  • Discomfort, including pain during sex
  • Infection
  • Urinary problems
  • Vaginal scarring
  • Recurrence of prolapsed organs

Due to the number of reported vaginal mesh complications, the FDA advised that doctors treating pelvic organ prolapse repair should recognize that the vaginal mesh is a permanent implant which could complicate future surgical procedures and put the patient at risk for additional complications and surgeries. Additionally, the agency announced that an outside panel of experts would meet in September 2011 to further discuss the safety and effectiveness of the vaginal mesh.
