Proscar Erectile Dysfunction and Other Sexual Side Effects

Proscar has been linked to a number of sexual side effects. Although the product manufacturer included decreased sexual desire and erectile dysfunction on the drug’s label, it may have mislead consumers into believing that these Proscar sexual side effects would go away after stopping the drug. Research has indicated that Proscar sexual side effects could last for months or years, even after discontinuing the drug.

The following sexual side effects have been reported by individuals who have taken Proscar:

    • Erectile dysfunction
    • Problems with orgasm
    • Loss of libido
    • Impotence
    • Decreased arousal
    • Testicular pain
    • Ejaculation problems

    Proscar and Cancer

In addition to sexual side effects, Proscar has been linked to an increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer, an aggressive form of the disease. In June 2011, a Proscar FDA warning was released to alert patients to this link and to advise that new labels would be placed on Proscar, Propecia and other 5-alpha reducatase inhibitors to reflect this risk. Compared to low-grade cancer, Proscar high-grade prostate cancer associated with use of the drug spreads and grows more quickly.

Symptoms which may indicate Proscar prostate cancer in users may include blood in the urine or semen; bone pain; difficulty urinating; leg swelling; discomfort in the pelvic areas; and decreased force in the stream of the urine. Although the Proscar cancer warning only pertained to tumors in the prostate gland, the drug has also been allegedly linked to male breast cancer, which can be indicated by breast lumps or pain, nipple discharge and breast enlargement.
