Pennsylvania Chocolate Factory Explosion Lawsuit
A beloved historic chocolate factory in Pennsylvania was destroyed in a disastrous explosion on March 24, 2023, killing at least seven people and injuring others. The blast completely leveled the R.M. Palmer Company plant, destroying a nearby building and damaging yet another.
The victims are still to be identified but are suspected to be factory workers, who expected to safely enter their workplace and return home at the end of their workday. Unfortunately, this tragic accident changed all of that.
Buildings are required to meet rigid standards for construction and safety for occupants, while factories should follow strict protocols to ensure the safety of their employees. That means that unfortunate and preventable events should never happen.
If you or a loved one were affected by this terrible accident, the attorneys at Morgan & Morgan are here to fight for you. Contact us today for a free, no-obligation case evaluation to learn more.

Where Did the Chocolate Explosion Happen?
The chocolate factory explosion occurred around 4:57 p.m. on March 24, 2023, at the R.M. Palmer Company in West Reading, Pennsylvania, located about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The Palmer company first opened the plant in 1942.
What Caused the Chocolate Factory Explosion in Pennsylvania?
According to officials, an investigation to determine the official cause of the chocolate factory explosion will be conducted.
PEMA Communications Director Ruth A. Miller explained in a statement, "In the initial incident report from Berks County to PEMA, a reference to a gas leak was included. It is really important to note that incident reports from counties are a snapshot in time of the understanding of the incident at the time the report was made."
While the matter is still being investigated, no matter the reason for the explosion—leaky gas pipes, poor factory design, faulty safety controls, out-of-date equipment, or anything else—one fact remains: these tragedies should never happen.
How Many People Were Hurt in the Chocolate Factory Explosion?
The explosion killed at least seven people and injured numerous others. One person had been found alive in the rubble during an overnight search.
Tower Heath said earlier its hospital in West Reading received 10 patients from the explosion. Of those injured, two were admitted and are in good and fair condition, and six have been discharged. Two others were transferred to other hospitals.
West Reading Mayor Samantha Kaag issued an emergency declaration Saturday to access more resources for emergency responders on the scene.
What Should I Do if I Was Affected by the Explosion?
If you or someone you love were hurt by the Palmer chocolate factory explosion you may be entitled to compensation.
At Morgan & Morgan, we understand that no monetary figure can fix the hardship and loss this event may have caused you, but we can help to fight for the full and fair compensation you deserve to move forward with your life.
