According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 21% of fatal occupational injuries in Florida were the result of falls in 2017. In that state, 25% of fatal occupational injuries are in construction, compared with about 20% nationwide. If you’re injured on the job in Florida, your employer is responsible for paying damages in the form of workers’ compensation.

Recovering the money you are entitled to by law can be made difficult by insurance companies that seek to deny your claims. In Florida, an injury that keeps you from work entitles you to 80% of your wages for every day that you miss work. The medical costs associated with treating your wounds are also covered. Even an injury that reduces the amount you can earn entitles you to 80% of the difference from your previous average weekly wage. Insurance companies may try to claim that your wounds are not work-related — or even that you are faking the severity of your injuries. Without an experienced attorney on your side, you will be left sifting through the complex legal filings of the insurance companies and on average will get a fraction of what you are owed.
