Casey Anthonyā€™s lawyers are trying to block her from giving a deposition in the defamation case brought against her by a Florida woman she wrongly accused of kidnapping her daughter Caylee.

Anthonyā€™s attorneys filed a motion asking the judge overseeing her federal bankruptcy case in Tampa to stop her from giving the deposition. According to an Associated Press report, Anthonyā€™s attorneys claimed they were not given proper notice to prepare their client and that the woman suing Anthony, Zenaida Gonzalez, lacks merit.

Gonzalezā€™s attorney, Matt Morgan, feels Anthony must be held accountable under the law and that the notoriety of her prior legal troubles should not come into play in his clientā€™s defamation suit.

ā€œWe know she doesnā€™t want to answer, that doesnā€™t mean she shouldnā€™t have to,ā€ Morgan said in an email to the AP.

The motion to block Anthonyā€™s forthcoming deposition may be too little too late, however, as the deposition is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, in front of Gonzalezā€™s attorneys.

After Cayleeā€™s disappearance in 2008, Anthony told detectives that a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez kidnapped the two-year-old. According to court documents, Gonzalez claims she was defamed by the statements Anthony made to law enforcement, and she should be considered a creditor in her federal bankruptcy case.

Anthonyā€™s lawyers claim Gonzalez is merely seeking publicity by suing their client and that although sheā€™s already be deposed in state court, she would assert her Fifth Amendment right if their motion to block Wednesdayā€™s deposition is overruled.

Anthony was acquitted of Cayleeā€™s murder in 2011.
