Alleged Drunk Driver Critically Injures Off Duty Police Officer - drunk driver

Off-duty Clayton County sheriff's deputy Amy Marie Kemper is in critical condition after her motorcycle was struck head-on by an SUV. It is alleged that the driver of the SUV, 26-year-old Christopher Lynn Brown, was drunk at the time of the accident. According to the WSB-TV Atlanta, Brown has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI), leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury, reckless driving, and serious injury by vehicle.

Brown has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI), leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury, reckless driving, and serious injury by vehicle. Troopers report that Brown’s Chevy Blazer was traveling southbound when he crossed the center line, struck a driveway culvert, hit a mailbox, and veered back into the northbound lanes where he collided with Kemper’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Brown, of Hogansville, then continued to drive for nearly a mile before his SUV finally broke down from the damages it had sustained. He is currently being held without bond. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 29, near Lake Ridge Way in Coweta County, Georgia.

The 39-year-old Kemper was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center and she remains in critical but stable condition after multiple surgeries. Kemper is currently a sergeant and was just recently promoted to supervisor of the student resource officers for the Sherriff’s Office. She has reportedly been with the department for 18 years, mostly in a plainclothes capacity.

Motorcycle accidents are sadly a common occurrence on the roads of both Georgia and the greater United States. Although many believe that motorcyclists are the cause of most of these accidents, this is not the case. The nature of motorcycles often makes them difficult to see or easy to ignore for drivers of larger vehicles, and their open-air design does not allow for much protection for the rider in the event of an accident. If you or a loved one has been involved in a motorcycle accident, do not hesitate to contact an experienced motorcycle accident lawyer to see if you might be eligible for compensation for your medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
