A settlement is an out-of-court agreement reached between the plaintiff and the defendant before going through legal proceedings. Essentially, it’s a deal. A verdict is a decision made by the judge or jury at the end of court proceedings.
Most civil cases reach a settlement out of court, often to avoid the time and money of continuing through the grueling legal process. It’s up to you whether to settle or pursue a verdict. Your decision will depend on a number of factors, including both parties‘ willingness to reach a fair agreement, and whether it’s worth it to you to seek maximum compensation, even if it means going all the way to court.
