Elmiron Lawsuit
Morgan & Morgan attorneys are reviewing claims on behalf of Interstitial Cystitis (IC) patients who took the prescription drug Elmiron and now may be suffering from a severe eye disease called maculopathy as a result.
Elmiron Eye Disease Lawsuit
Since 1996, millions of patients have been prescribed Elmiron in order to treat their interstitial cystitis (IC), otherwise known as painful bladder syndrome. But there is now reason to believe that this drug may cause a serious eye condition in those taking it, one that may result in blindness.
This condition is a form of maculopathy – the degeneration of the macula, the central part of the retina. Maculopathy’s first symptoms are blurred vision, dark spots, trouble focusing, and other impairments: as it progresses, it may lead to total blindness.
As the evidence has piled up, the manufacturer of Elmiron – Janssen Pharmaceuticals – has failed to warn the public about these risks. Millions of people are taking a drug that may one day rob them of their vision, and an untold number may have already suffered serious health conditions.
Lawsuits on behalf of the injured have already begun. If you or a loved one took Elmiron and has since been diagnosed with maculopathy, you may be eligible for compensation. Call today to have your case reviewed for free.
A New Danger Come To Light
The potential risks associated with Elmiron were unknown until 2015, when doctors at Atlanta’s Emory Eye Center encountered an eye condition they hadn’t seen before in six women. This form of maculopathy didn’t seem to have a cause, but further investigation revealed that all six women had been taking Elmiron for years.
Further studies released in 2018 and 2019 further support the link between Elmiron and this eye condition. It is currently unknown how Elmiron causes this condition.
Common symptoms of the specific form of Maculopathy linked to Elmiron include:
- A change in the color of the retina itself
- Dark spots in visions
- Straight lines turned curved or squiggly
- Muted, less vivid colors
- Trouble reading
- Blurred vision, including in the center of the field of view
- A hard time adjusting to dimmer lighting
Eye disease is still not listed as a possible side effect by the manufacturer, despite evidence. There's no telling how many people have already suffered a serious eye injury due to their use of Elmiron, and hundreds of thousands of people are still putting themselves at risk.
