A woman was killed in a Rockford, Illinois, crash while sitting in her disabled vehicle on Jan. 11, ABC 7 Chicago reported. A FedEx truck slammed into the woman’s car at about 1:20 a.m. on Interstate 90. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were 948 fatal motor vehicle accidents in Illinois in 2018, the most recent year for which data is available. Although the number of deadly automobile crashes has been decreasing in recent years, the number of lethal crashes involving semi trucks has been increasing.

Watching a parent die as a child creates lasting trauma potentially requiring years of therapy to help cope with the post-traumatic stress disorder that may come with it. The loss of income and care from the death of a parent puts an additional burden on the remaining parent or legal guardian. On top of all this is the matter of planning and paying for a funeral on short notice.

After a fatal car crash, you as the executor of your loved one’s estate may be eligible for compensation for these damages and more. As next of kin, you may also be entitled to remuneration for the emotional toll of a wrongful death.

Recovering compensation usually means contending with insurance companies, which tend to do everything in their power to deny you what you are owed.
