Biography

Biography Overview

Matthew is a Pittsburgh native and a battle-tested courtroom veteran, armed with years of hands-on experience and a track record of delivering results for his clients. He is a former New York City prosecutor who has tried complex civil cases, and when it comes to technology, he's like a fish in the binary sea.

With an undergraduate degree in television and video production, Matthew's background has proven invaluable as trials have increasingly relied on visually presenting evidence to jurors in educational and engaging ways. Prior to his career as a litigator, Matthew gained experience in roles at Access Hollywood, Assignment Discovery, and The Sally Jesses Raphael Show. Even today, Matthew remains a talented video editor, pursuing this passion as a hobby in community and civic organizations.

Following law school, Matthew spent time at a criminal defense firm in New York City, representing individuals charged by the United States government with participation in organized crime families. This high-level litigation experience culminated in a four-week trial in federal court in the Southern District of New York.

His criminal defense work ignited a passion for the courtroom that Matthew found could be satisfied only by total immersion in litigation, which he found at the Brooklyn District Attorney's office. Much like a physician completes a residency, Matthew's time as a prosecutor was marked by complete devotion to the job. Between jury trials, grand jury indictments, night court, shifts in the Complaint Room, DNA boot camp, and extra-jurisdictional assignments as a special prosecutor, Matthew gained comprehensive experience, developing into a unique litigator with unmatched skills and attributes.

In 2009, Matthew brought his experience home to Western Pennsylvania, where he began focusing his practice on civil litigation. For the past 14 years, he has applied the lessons he learned in New York City to the courtrooms in Pittsburgh and the surrounding legal jurisdictions.

Often described as "spunky," Matthew's practice personality aggressively advocates on behalf of his clients. Known for his tenacity and unwavering determination, he fearlessly challenges opposing counsel, earning a reputation as an attorney who pushes hard during litigation.

The final arrow in Matthew's quiver is his love for technology and his passion to leverage every new tool that he can in favor of his clients' interests. As a member of the Online Courtroom Project, Matthew serves as part of an advisory task force focused on enhancing online courtroom operations nationwide. His role involves conducting research and offering recommendations to improve the effectiveness of online operations throughout the entire litigation process with an ultimate aim of making justice more accessible to the people (not the powerful!)

Outside the courtroom, Matthew is an unashamed fanboy for democracy. He has previously been elected to leadership roles in his local government, he is a Ruling Elder of his church, and he is a past president of the congregational corporation. Additionally, he proudly sits on the Board of Directors for the Osborne Trail and Park Association, a local nonprofit corporation supplementing municipal Parks & Recreation services.

Matthew is passionate, gritty, and driven, yet, at the same time, his clients describe him as patient, compassionate, and kind. If you need someone to push the legal system to get you the results you deserve, Matthew is the attorney for you!
