Why We Fight: The Morgan & Morgan Origin Story

Injured?

We can help.

People often look at Morgan & Morgan as it exists today and assume it was always meant to become what it is now: a national law firm with offices across the country that has represented millions of people.

But that’s not how this story began.

The foundation of Morgan & Morgan was built through a deeply personal experience that changed the Morgan family forever.

It Started With Tim

Long before Morgan & Morgan existed, John Morgan’s brother, Tim, suffered a devastating accident while working for Disney. During a diving accident on the job, Tim hit his head and became quadriplegic. What happened that day would permanently alter the course of his life and deeply affect his family as well.

But the accident wasn’t the only thing that left a lasting impact.

Rather than stepping in to support someone who had suffered a life-altering injury while working, Disney fought the claim. What should have been about care, accountability, and support became a legal battle.

For John Morgan, that experience stayed with him. His family wasn’t just dealing with the reality of Tim’s injury; they were also watching a company fight a young man whose life had changed in an instant. It raised a bigger question: what happens when someone is badly hurt, and the system meant to protect them doesn’t feel protective at all?

That experience planted the seed for something bigger.

John has often said he didn’t set out with a grand plan to build America’s Largest Injury Law Firm™. He simply knew families like his deserved better representation during some of the hardest moments of their lives

Building the Firm He Wished Existed

John wanted to create the kind of law firm he wished had been there when Tim needed help: a firm that would fight for people who felt powerless, stand up to corporations and insurance companies, and treat clients like people rather than case files.

A few years into his marriage, John made a decision that would change the course of his life. He started his own law firm with a simple goal: hire talented attorneys and provide clients with meaningful representation.

People responded to that approach. Clients told friends and family about their experiences. Former clients came back when they needed legal help again. Over time, the firm grew steadily, not because there was some master plan for expansion, but because people trusted the work being done.

A Family Mission

Over time, that mission became deeply personal for the entire Morgan family.

John and his wife, Ultima, built the firm together, and their children grew up watching what their parents created. Eventually, multiple members of the next generation became attorneys themselves and now continue that work.

For the Morgan family, the story has never been about growth for the sake of growth. It has always been about remembering why this all started.

One of John and Ultima’s sons, Matt, put it best: “Tim didn’t get the outcome that he deserved, so every time that we see a client throughout the firm, even though now we represent millions of people, every single one of those people in our eyes is Tim.”

That perspective continues to shape how the firm approaches every case.

Why the Fight Continues

That mindset helps explain why Morgan & Morgan continues taking on difficult cases and powerful opponents.

Whether someone is injured in a workplace accident, harmed by a defective product, denied fair compensation after a crash, or facing a corporation with seemingly endless resources, the principle remains the same: people deserve someone willing to stand up for them.

That belief has shaped Morgan & Morgan for 35 years. It’s reflected in courtrooms across the country, in the families the firm represents, and in the next generation of attorneys carrying that mission forward.

For John, there’s still a moment of reflection when he walks into one of the firm’s offices; not because of how large the firm has become, but because he knows why it exists.

He built the law firm he wishes his brother had when his family needed help the most.

That’s why Morgan & Morgan fights For The People™, and why that mission continues today.
