Bed, Bath & Beyond Hammock Recall
Hammocks are known to provide relaxation benefits like none other, but only when they’re manufactured in a way that ensures the safety of users.
Unfortunately, many hammocks and hammock stands are fundamentally flawed in their design. Rather than offer a safe medium for consumers to unwind at the end of a long day, these defective products pose health and safety threats that can lead to serious injury. One popular model of hammock stand sold at Bed, Bath & Beyond is currently the subject of a product recall following concerns about fall hazards. The Destination Summer Hammock Stand, which has been sold 13,900 times in Bed, Bath & Beyond stores, is reported to have a faulty hooking mechanism. The product’s Z-shaped hooks fail to provide adequate support when a hammock is attached to the stand and are prone to bend or break, resulting in the user falling to the ground. At the time of the recall, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission had received 13 reports of users falling to the ground and sustaining injuries to various body parts as a result of the product’s design flaws.
Bed, Bath & Beyond has responded by urging consumers to dispose of the faulty Z-shaped hooks and to contact the company for a free set of replacement hooks. However, this is only a band-aid fix for a much wider issue: an organization acting negligently and allowing a dangerous product to enter the open market. Bed, Bath & Beyond’s failure to properly safety-test its hammock stand is unacceptable and puts the health and safety of its loyal customers at risk.
Product liability laws exist to protect consumers from unsafe products and to hold culpable organizations to account for the consequences of those products. If you’ve suffered an injury as a result of a defective Bed, Bath & Beyond hammock stand, our attorneys are ready to take your call and fight your case. As a consumer, it’s important to stand up to at-fault organizations, not only to recover any damages that you’re rightfully owed but also to set an example for others to follow.
