GE Appliances Recalls Free-Standing and Slide-In Ranges
In May of 2021, GE Appliance sold their Free-Standing and Slide-In Electric and Gas Ranges in Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, and other home improvement and home appliance stores nationwide, as well as online through July 2021. Depending on the model, their costs ranged anywhere between $580 and $4,600. The appliance company was able to sell over 132,000 units in the United States, with roughly 12,960 units released in Canada. However, on December 08, 2021, GE issued a recall on their products after a report that the ranges could tip over due to their weight when a heavy object is placed on the opened oven door. Another report noted that when not secured to the wall or floor, the anti-tip-over bracket poses a tip-over hazard and risk of burn injuries from hot food or liquids in cookware.
How to Know if Your GE Range Was Recalled
This recall involves the 30-inch, 24-inch, and 20-inch free-standing and slide-in electric and gas ranges with seven brand names, including GE, GE Profile, Café, Haier, Hotpoint, Crosley, and Conservator. The brand name, model number, and serial number are all printed on a label that is visible on each unit. The affected ranges have a serial number that begins with either “HS” or “LS” and a model number prefix for easy identification. To see if your model number is included in the recall, you can review the chart on the official recall posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

What Are My Next Steps?
If you believe you currently possess the recalled ranges, you are urged to immediately contact GE Appliances to officially determine if your unit is part of the recall. Once verified, you can schedule a free in-home service call to inspect the recalled range’s anti-tip bracket to ensure it is securely installed in your floor or wall. According to GE, consumers are currently unable to return the recalled ranges to their place of purchase, as retailers are not prepared to receive the units. If you have not called GE or are still waiting for your inspection, the company has stated that you can still continue to use the ranges but are cautioned to refrain from placing any objects on the open oven door until the range’s anti-tip bracket has been inspected and repaired.
What Compensation Can I Receive for My Injuries?
If a defective product harmed you due to manufacturer/seller error or negligence, you could be entitled to compensation for your injuries. However, you might be wondering how much your injury case is worth. When it comes to injury cases, the value of your specific case may vary and depends on a few key factors: the circumstances and severity of your injuries, and the limits on your insurance coverage, among other things.
However, most commonly in injury cases, victims can receive compensation for the following:
- Lost wages;
- Medical expenses;
- Future medical bills;
- Reduced quality of life;
- Loss of earning capacity;
- Loss of consortium; and
- Pain and suffering.
Standing up against major manufacturers or sellers may seem like an intimidating task to take on--however, with the right legal team on your side, you can receive justice. That’s where we come in.
