$45 Million Class Action Settlement Approved in MGM Resorts Data Breach Case

A federal judge has granted final approval to a $45 million class action settlement stemming from the massive data breach at MGM Resorts International, which compromised the personal information of millions of guests across the U.S. With the judge’s approval on June 18, 2025, people affected by the breach can now begin receiving compensation.
John Yanchunis served as the lead attorney in this case, helping to secure a major result on behalf of consumers nationwide.
A Breach That Impacted Millions
The lawsuit followed a series of cybersecurity incidents in which hackers accessed sensitive customer data, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and other personally identifiable information. Litigation on behalf of affected individuals was ultimately consolidated into a multi-district proceeding in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada.
Following extensive mediation and months of negotiations, MGM Resorts agreed to a nationwide class action settlement, providing financial compensation and identity protection services to impacted consumers.
Settlement Details: Who’s Eligible and What’s Available
Who qualifies:
- Any U.S. resident whose private information was compromised in the MGM data breach is eligible to participate in the settlement.
Benefits include:
- Reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses
- Tiered cash payments based on the degree of impact
- Free financial account monitoring services
The court received only one objection to the settlement, which was dismissed as untimely and without merit, clearing the way for the agreement to proceed.
What Comes Next
With the settlement approved, valid claims will be processed, and eligible individuals will begin receiving payments or services as outlined in the agreement. In a noteworthy gesture, any unclaimed funds will be donated to the UNLV Cyber Clinic, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting cybersecurity education and advocacy.
