McLean Mortgage Data Breach: 30,000+ at Risk—Know Your Rights

Morgan & Morgan’s industry-leading data privacy attorneys are investigating McLean Mortgage Corporation regarding its recent data breach (sometimes referred to as a data security incident). The McLean Mortgage data breach involved sensitive personally identifiable information belonging to more than 30,000 individuals, including names, Social Security numbers, account numbers, and financial information.

 

We are investigating, among other things, the following:

  • how McLean Mortgage acquired the sensitive information;
  • whether McLean Mortgage should have had the sensitive information;
  • why McLean Mortgage stored this sensitive information in an Internet-accessible environment;
  • whether McLean Mortgage encrypted the sensitive information it stored in an Internet-accessible environment;
  • whether McLean Mortgage deleted sensitive information it no longer had a reasonable need to maintain in an Internet-accessible environment;
  • whether McLean Mortgage implemented appropriate and adequate security measures to protect the sensitive information it stored in an Internet-accessible environment; and
  • whether McLean Mortgage has provided affected individuals adequate protection and compensation for any harms they have experienced as a result of the data breach.

     

On June 11, 2024, McLean Mortgage filed a notice with the Attorney General of Massachusetts, confirming that unauthorized access to its network had resulted in the exposure of highly sensitive consumer data. According to the company’s official filings, the breach affected 30,453 people.

 

The compromised data reportedly includes:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Mortgage and financial account information
  • Other identifying details linked to loan documentation
