MLB Faces Lawsuit From Woman Severely Injured at Bowman Field

[Williamsport, PA] – A 57-year-old woman who suffered significant injuries in May 2025 when she was struck in the head by a foul ball at a baseball game has filed a lawsuit against Major League Baseball and other defendants.
On May 2, 2025, the plaintiff was watching a college baseball game at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, PA when a foul ball ricocheted off a railing and struck her in the head. She suffered a concussion and multiple skull fractures as well as vision problems, for which she continues to receive treatment.
The attached lawsuit names Major League Baseball, the City of Williamsport, and the Williamsport Crosscutters – the MLB Draft League team that plays at Bowman Field – as defendants. Starting in 2017, Bowman Field began hosting one MLB game per year, the Little League Classic. This resulted in a lease agreement between the three defendants which gave MLB the responsibility of upgrading the field as necessary to maintain MLB standards.
“As early as 2022, the MLB established safety standards necessary for protecting fans, yet Bowman Field remained unprotected as the 2025 season began,” said Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan and the victim’s attorney Joe Swist. “Our client’s lawsuit alleges that MLB dragged their feet and allowed this dangerous condition to persist at Bowman Field, contributing to her devastating injuries. Our goal is to achieve justice for a woman whose life was permanently altered by an allegedly foreseeable and preventable incident, and to hold the League and the stadium accountable for their delay.”
In 2022, MLB mandated that all minor-league clubs, including the Crosscutters, protect fans by installing netting of a standardized height from foul pole to foul pole by the first day of the 2025 season. Despite creating and knowing about this requirement for years, the defendants allegedly dragged their feet and did not install the required netting until the 2025 major-league and minor-league seasons had already begun.
