Meet Chris D. Usher

Christopher D. Usher II is a trial attorney in Morgan & Morgan’s Columbia, South Carolina office. Before joining the firm, Chris served as a federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans. In those roles, he handled complex investigations and prosecutions.

As a trial attorney in the Department of Justice’s Violent Crime and Racketeering Section, Chris traveled the country to investigate and prosecute organized crime and racketeering conspiracies across multiple federal districts. He finished his DOJ career as a Senior Counsel in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division, where he advised senior leadership on complex criminal matters and Division priorities.

Before joining the Criminal Division, Chris served as an Assistant United States Attorney in New Orleans, where he prosecuted narcotics, firearms, and money laundering cases. For his work on major investigations, he received the DEA Spartan Award.

Chris has tried many cases to verdict in federal court, including a six-week multi-defendant RICO trial involving multiple murders in multiple states. That case resulted in guilty verdicts on all counts, and Chris received the Assistant Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service for his work.

Prior to his federal service, Chris served more than five years on active duty in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he worked as both a prosecutor and defense counsel. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law and his B.S. in Financial Management, cum laude, from Clemson University.

Chris now uses his experience as a former federal prosecutor and trial attorney to fight for people who have been seriously injured and to help them seek justice and accountability. Chris and his wife, Sam, are the proud parents of two daughters, Addison and Sloane.
