Are you ready to get high in Lakeland? If CircusTrix has anything to do with it, you’ll be doing just that in 2016. CircusTrix, self described as the “purveyors of awesome,” is an extreme aerial recreation company headquartered in Palo Alto, CA, and Provo, UT. The company is the parent of a series of national trampoline-based parks.
With outfits such as Thinair, High Heaven, Ryze, Jumpology, Gravitopia, and Above All, the CircusTrix holding company hoisted itself onto the national aerial scene in 2011. Another aptly named park will be the first CircusTrix outfit to open in Florida. 2infinity is set to open in May in a 40,000 square foot facility in the Liberty Square Shopping Center. Daytona Beach and West Palm Beach locations will follow by the end of the year. In addition to the trampoline rooms, the space will include a Ninja Warrior Course, Olympic-size foam pits, and a flying trapeze.
Aerial arts, which also include silks, trapeze, and pole acrobatics, has become increasingly popular in recent years, thanks in part to the rise in popularity of international shows created by Cirque du Soleil and the Argentine aerial theatrical group, De La Guarda.
Safety, in general, is a given priority when it comes to the operation of attraction, theme, and other recreation parks. In order to operate from a legal standpoint, several types of building permits and inspection certificates must be secured, and liability insurance must be carried by the operator of the establishment. But, even when all of these provisions and precautions are executed with relative accuracy, there is still room for error.
This past summer saw dangerous incidents occur at theme parks across the country. This is concerning in light of the fact that theme park attendance is up 2.2%, according to a report by AECOM and the Themed Entertainment Association.
Safety is an issue when dealing with any sport, but can be even more precarious when acts defy gravity. Luckily for parents, the trampoline gymnastics purveyed by CircusTrix are relatively safe forms of aerial arts. The data cited on the company’s website from a 2002 publication by the American Academy of Pediatrics Journal stated that the injury incident rate is less than 0.02 for trampoline parks. This statistic stands in sharp contrast to home trampolines. A study by the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics reported that over one million people went to the emergency room between 2002-2011 for trampoline-related injuries. A whooping 300,000 of those injuries involved broken bones. 92.7 percent of the injuries cited occurred in children 16 years of age and younger.
CircusTrix targets the 17 to 25-year-old demographic on social media, perhaps to attract a less reckless crowd to their robust bouncy rooms. One thing is for certain with the arrival of this new “air fare” in Polk County — residents, tourists, and nearby developers will be flying high due to the forthcoming positive revenue flow into the community.
