Meet Tom Murphy
Tom has spent his life between Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and now practices equally in both states. Born and raised in Southeastern Massachusetts, Tom fell in love with Narragansett Bay while working as a deckhand on the BayQueen during high school. After graduating from Stonehill College, Tom earned his 100 Ton Master’s License and piloted ferries, including the high speed ferry traveling between Providence and Newport. After several years working on the water, he attended Roger Williams University Law School where graduated from in 2009.
Tom is a trial lawyer and litigator. Before joining Morgan and Morgan, Tom spent over 15 years as an insurance defense lawyer for both a large national firm and a mid-size local firm. He gained significant trial experience defending individuals and businesses in personal injury claims. He has tried numerous wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases to juries in Massachusetts. In addition, he has experience briefing and arguing appeals. Tom prepares every case with the assumption he will present evidence to a jury. However, he has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution such as mediation and arbitration if it is in his client's best interest to settle a case. Tom now uses his years of experience and knowledge as an insurance defense lawyer to support his clients' fight for justice.
Tom and his wife settled in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where they are raising their two sons.
