Meet Janiel D. Smalls

Janiel Smalls began her legal journey by earning her Juris Doctor from Cooley Law School, formerly known as Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Driven by an early desire to make a meaningful difference for vulnerable individuals, she launched her career advocating in juvenile defense and serving as a guardian ad litem. In that vital first year, Janiel developed a reputation for compassionate counsel and steadfast protection of young people navigating the court system.

Building on that advocacy foundation, Janiel spent three years immersed in complex elder law and probate litigation. In this role, she skillfully handled sensitive disputes involving trust and will contests as well as contested conservatorship and guardianship matters. She then expanded her legal perspective by dedicating six years to insurance defense litigation. Through that comprehensive experience, Janiel mastered the tactics, evaluation strategies, and claims handling methods that insurance carriers use to defend against claims, giving her invaluable insight into how the other side operates.

Today, Janiel brings that rich, well-rounded decade of litigation background to the Morgan & Morgan Michigan team, focusing her practice on representing individuals injured in car accidents. Known for her approachable demeanor and dedicated client care, she uses her extensive courtroom experience and behind-the-scenes knowledge of insurance tactics to level the playing field. Janiel is deeply committed to supporting everyday people through the recovery process, working tirelessly to hold negligent drivers and insurers accountable so her clients can secure the full justice and compensation they deserve.
