Meet Ethan Guthman
Ethan Guthman is an experienced personal injury attorney in Morgan & Morgan’s Chicago office, where he focuses his practice on medical malpractice and nursing home neglect and abuse. He represents patients, minors, nursing home residents, and families who have been harmed by birth injury, elder abuse, diagnostic failures, surgical complications, medication errors, pressure injuries, falls, inadequate supervision, negligent care, and systemic failures in patient care.
Ethan earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and his Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois. Ethan is an active member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and was recognized as a “Top 40 Under 40” Civil Plaintiff attorney by The National Trial Lawyers in 2023-2024.
Before joining Morgan & Morgan, Ethan gained extensive litigation experience on both the plaintiff and defense sides of personal injury law. As a civil defense attorney, he defended claims involving medical malpractice, products liability, premises liability, and general tort negligence. That experience gave him firsthand insight into how insurance companies, healthcare providers, and corporate defendants evaluate and defend personal injury claims.
Today, Ethan uses that knowledge to advocate for injured patients, vulnerable nursing home residents, and families seeking answers, accountability, and justice. He understands the strategies defendants often use to dispute liability, minimize damages, and challenge causation, and he uses that insight to prepare his clients’ cases thoroughly from the outset.
Ethan is committed to protecting the rights of injured patients and vulnerable nursing home residents, holding negligent providers and facilities accountable, and pursuing the full compensation his clients are entitled to under the law.
