Meet Devaughn Ward

DeVaughn L. Ward built his academic foundation in Washington, D.C., earning his undergraduate degree from Howard University. Driven by a deep commitment to civil rights and community advocacy, he went on to attend the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor. Throughout his legal education, DeVaughn focused on public interest advocacy, constitutional protections, and the procedural skills needed to challenge institutional wrongdoing on behalf of everyday people.

Following graduation, DeVaughn entered public service and legislative affairs, gaining substantial experience in governance and policy. He served as legislative counsel and advised leaders at both state and municipal levels. His dedication to systemic accountability led to his appointment by Governor Ned Lamont, and unanimous confirmation by the Connecticut General Assembly, to serve as Connecticut’s Correction Ombuds. In this prominent oversight role, he investigated complex institutional conditions, protected human rights, and worked to ensure state systems remained transparent, humane, and legally compliant.

Transitioning his focus to courtroom litigation, DeVaughn founded and managed a successful boutique law practice handling a wide variety of civil and criminal cases in state and federal courts. His plaintiff side practice centered on standing up for vulnerable individuals facing institutional misconduct, correctional medical neglect, constitutional violations, and wrongful death. His dedication produced notable results, including multiple seven figure settlements and landmark federal class action litigation that achieved widespread, systemic healthcare reforms.

Over the course of his legal journey, DeVaughn’s fierce advocacy and trial results have earned wide recognition throughout the legal community. He was named Attorney of the Year and Giant Slayer by the Connecticut Law Tribune and was celebrated among Connecticut Magazine’s 40 Under 40 honorees. Colleagues and clients value his thorough strategic preparation, commanding courtroom presence, and innate ability to navigate high-stakes disputes with poise and integrity.

Today, DeVaughn brings that powerful combination of trial advocacy, government insight, and institutional oversight to the Morgan & Morgan team. In his practice handling complex civil litigation, medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases, he remains steadfastly committed to fighting for everyday individuals and families. Approachable, attentive, and genuinely invested in his clients’ well-being, DeVaughn takes pride in leveling the playing field and holding powerful corporations, institutions, and individuals accountable.
