Meet Derek Thompson
Derek Thompson grew up in California's San Fernando Valley, where he developed a deep, lifelong connection to the local community and the people who live there. He pursued his undergraduate education close to home at California State University, Northridge, earning his degree in psychology and philosophy. Raised in a law enforcement family, Derek developed an early appreciation for public service, which inspired him to pursue a career in the legal field where he could stand up for people navigating complex legal systems.
Immediately after graduating from law school, Derek launched his career by stepping up to represent public safety personnel. Drawing on his family background, he advocated for police officers and firefighters across a wide spectrum of legal matters, including collective bargaining, employment litigation, arbitrations, and administrative claims, handling virtually every aspect of their employment. Over the course of his career, Derek built a versatile litigation practice working on both the defense and plaintiff sides, with a primary focus on standing up for plaintiffs. Through this work, he developed extensive expertise in handling claims against government entities, mastering the unique procedural nuances and avoiding the common pitfalls that often complicate these cases.
Today, Derek brings his rich litigation background, strong trial skills, and appellate experience to his practice, having successfully taken cases all the way through the appeal process when necessary to achieve justice. By leveraging his inside knowledge of both sides of the aisle, he builds highly strategic cases designed to level the playing field for his clients.
