Tampa Bay Rays minor league pitcher Brian Bush was convicted on a number of charges months after he hit a motorcycle and drove away, allegedly while under the influence. According to Sports Illustrated{: target="_blank"}, Bush was driving south on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte when he hit a motorcycle driven by 72-year-old Anthony Tufan and drove away in the other direction. Bush has been charged with DUI, multiple counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury, and driving with a suspended license. Tufano was taken to Lee County Hospital in serious condition.
After police were notified of the accident and later located his 2011 Dodge Durango SUV. The 26-year-old Bush was taken to Charlotte County Jail and was held without bail. Bush allegedly has had previous DUI-related accidents in Arizona and California.
Bush’s arrest came just hours before another major league pitcher, Red Sox reliever Bobby Jenks, was arrested for a similar offense. Jenks allegedly hit two cars while leaving Babe's night club in Fort Myers, drove onto a sidewalk, and was eventually charged with DUI, three counts of DUI with property damage, and hit and run. "I'm going to be honest with you. I was just leaving Babe's because I hit a car," Jenks reportedly told officers. "I just had to get out of there."
