Elbow Injuries

Triceps Tendon Strain

The triceps tendon is located at the back of the upper arm and passes through the back of the elbow. A strain, which is the tearing of a tendon or muscle, may occur as a result of falling onto your hands or lifting or pushing something that is too heavy. The tendon can also become strained if the biceps muscles on the front of the arm are significantly more developed than the triceps.

A triceps tendon strain causes pain around the elbow and painful swelling at the back of the elbow, making it difficult to move the elbow. When these symptoms are experienced, rest the arm and apply ice during the first two days. Anti-inflammatory medication can be used to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
