Elbow Injuries

Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow is a very common injury. It usually occurs in the tendon of extensor muscle in the elbow, just 2 cm below the outer edge of the elbow joint. Tennis elbow is caused by overuse or repetitive strain from bending the wrist back. Tennis elbow also causes weakness in the wrist, which results in difficulty performing basic tasks such as opening a door or shaking hands. Pain is felt along the outside of the elbow when the hand is bent back and when trying to straighten the fingers against resistance.

To treat Tennis elbow, apply ice at least three times a day for 20 minutes to reduce pain and inflammation. Resting the arm is extremely important. A brace should be worn to protect the area during recovery. Acupuncture has proven to be an extremely effective treatment for this ailment.
