From 2006 to 2007, there was a rise in fatal auto accidents in St. Petersburg, Florida. The total number of deadly car crashes rose from 27 to 38 during this two-year span. Approximately five of the deadly car crashes in 2006 were caused by drunk drivers; none of the fatal car crashes in 2007 were alcohol-related. In Pinellas County, however, there were more than 2,000 drunk driving accidents in the past three years alone. In addition, more than 600 Pinellas County residents were hospitalized after an auto accident in 2007.
