Signs of Defective Chinese Drywall

Scott Wm Weinstein

The first sign of defective drywall is a strong sulfur odor, similar to the smell of rotten eggs, which may appear in homes or offices constructed with this material. This smell could be intense enough to force residents to leave their house. The need to frequently repair your air conditioning unit is another indicator that your home may have been built with Chinese drywall. Air conditioner evaporator coils should last at least 10 years. The sulfur compound in defective drywall can cause the coils to corrode much faster, as well as cause damage to electrical wires and pipes. Defective drywall could also adversely affect the value of your home.
