Sam's Club Welcomes Female CEO

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has hired Rosalind Brewer as the newest CEO and president of its subsidiary Sam’s Club on Friday.

Brewer, 49, was promoted from within the company; she was the president of the east coast division of Wal-Mart. At that position she oversaw 1,600 stores, 500,000 sales associates and more than $100 billion in annual revenue.

The Bentonville, Ark., company announced other executive changes on Friday.

Rollin Ford, 49, was promoted from the Chief Information Officer to Chief Administrative Office. He will oversee information systems division, global sourcing, global business processes, global shared services and global customer insights.

Gisel Ruiz was hired as the newest executive vice-president and Chief Operating Officer for U.S. operations. She previously held the position of executive vice president of people within the U.S. division of the company. In this new position, she will be responsible for more than 3,800 stores within the country, including Supercenters, discount stores, Walmart Express Formations and Neighborhood Markets.

Karenann Terrel, 50, was appointed as the Chief Information Officer for the company. He will be responsible for the company’s global technology systems including stores and clubs, supply chain, merchandising and enterprise platforms. He was previously Wal-Mart’s assistant chief information officer.

“We are very intentional about developing talent to meet the needs of our rapidly growing business worldwide,” said Wal-Mart President and CEO Mike Duke. “The promotions we are announcing today are clear evidence that our succession and management development programs work, and that we have highly talented, well-rounded and experienced business leaders ready to step into larger roles when the opportunities arise.”

All of these new changes will become effective February 1.
