Lifeguards

Safety Equipment

Lifeguards must be proficient in the use of several different kinds of equipment. The equipment a lifeguard carries usually depends on the conditions he or she may encounter. For example, pool lifeguards don't always need the same equipment as a beach lifeguard.

Lifeguarding equipment generally includes the following:

  • Whistle
  • CPR rescue mask
  • First aid kit
  • Rescue buoy, tube or can
  • Watch
  • Swim fins
  • Paddle
  • Water crafts
  • Long spine board
  • Automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Megaphone
  • High chair
  • Oxygen tank
  • Reaching poles
  • Ring buoys
  • Rescue boards
