Plantar Fascia Strain

The plantar fascia, or arch ligament, runs from under the heel to the front of the foot. A strain or rupture of this ligament is common and could result from a single traumatic incident or appear over time.

Symptoms of a plantar fascia strain include pain and tenderness over the ligament, and a lump might also appear, indicating a partial rupture. This type of injury usually heals in three weeks by resting and keeping weight off of the foot. Taping the foot helps to provide protection and reduces pressure around the affected area.
