Periostitis
Periostitis is the inflammation of the connective tissue that surrounds a bone. It causes tenderness, swelling and pain around the bone. Periostitis is treated with rest, icing, anti-inflammatory medication and pain killers.
Periostitis is classified as a contraindication, which means the affected tissue should not be massaged because it will only cause more damage to the injury and slow the healing process. Since periositis is caused by inflammation, massaging the area increases blood, thereby causing additional swelling and pain.
