Knee Injuries

Patella Dislocation

Dislocation of the patella occurs when it is knocked out of the groove on which it slides when the knee is moved. Dislocation can be extremely painful. The knee swells and mobility IS difficult. It is evident to the naked eye that the knee cap is not in its proper place and that displacement has occurred.

To treat this injury, first follow the RICE method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). A specialist will be able to reposition the patella. In serious cases, surgery may be needed if structural damage has occurred.
