Parasailing

Parasailing is a recreational water activity in which a person is towed behind a boat while attached to a type of parachute called a parasail. When the boat takes off at high speed, the parascender is pulled up into the air and floats behind the boat. Boats must reach at least 90HP in order to parasail, and the boat driver must be cautious and properly trained.

If practiced inappropriately, parasailing can lead to fatal accidents. The following is a list of precautions for parasailing safely:

Parasail only with a fully licensed and insured company.
Avoid parasailing in high wind conditions of over 15 knots, as it can lead to difficulty and complications during emergency water landings.
Never parasail in rain, fog or an approaching storm.
Before going up all parascenders should receive a safety briefing.
Do not parasail at more than 600 feet.
Wear a life jacket and helmet.
All parasailing components should be checked before and after each flight.
