Natural Disasters

Officially, only the President can declare a disaster. However, natural disasters include hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, earthquakes, landslides, intense storms and rainfall, sinkholes, avalanches and other similarly devastating natural events. The damage these disasters can cause depends on their severity. Severe natural disasters often require disaster relief and cause hazardous conditions for emergency and rescue workers.
