Morton's Syndrome
Morton's syndrome is the pain in between toes or on one side of a toe caused by a pinched nerve. It is common in golfers and tennis players, who consistently turn on the ball of their foot. A weak arch can cause the bones in the foot to pinch a nerve. Sometimes a benign tumor on the nerves in between the toes can cause this ailment. Ill fitting shoes which press against the nerve can also cause this condition.
To prevent Morton's syndrome, resting the foot is always best. Orthotics will help to correct the problem over time. Taping the foot helps in relieving the pain, as it reduces pressure on the nerve. Anti-inflammatory medication also helps. A podiatrist can suggest targeted strengthening exercises to prevent future problems.
