Lower Back Massage
A sports massage works the soft tissues, ligaments and tendons in a certain part of the body. It is proven to increase circulation and blood supply to muscles, realign fibers in the muscles, remove lactic acid and aid in injury recovery by breaking down scar tissue. Overall a massage helps to keep the body in better condition, which may improve an athlete's performance and extend the longevity of his or her career.
To give a basic lower back massage, place the first and index fingers of each hand on either side of the spine. Have one hand slightly below the other and make rhythmic overlapping motions down the back. Then, make big circles with open hands moving up the sides of the spine and around the ribcage. Move down the body and over the fleshy part of the hip and make your way back to the starting point. Another movement involves placing an open hand on each hip. Use a gentle, wringing stoke to move up the body towards the ribcage.
