Lordosis

Lordosis is when the lower back has an exaggerated inward curve. When the curve is too great, other parts of the spine become stressed and cause pain. The cause of lordosis is unknown, but it is believed that poor posture, a congenital vertebrae problem and hip problems can all contribute to this condition. Tight hip flexors and trunk extensors can also lead to lordosis.

A common result of lordosis is a prominence of the buttocks, but symptoms vary from person to person. Lordosis is not normally associated with back and leg pain or changes in bowel and bladder habits.

Lordosis requires frequent examinations and monitoring by a doctor. Fixing the problem can be as simple as exercising the back and correcting poor posture. However, lordosis is often caused by problems in other areas of the body, such as the hips, and will disappear once the initial problem is treated.
