Leg Massage
A sports massage works the soft tissues, ligaments and tendons in a certain part of the body. It is proven to increase circulation and blood supply to muscles, realign fibers in the muscles, remove lactic acid and aid in injury recovery by breaking down scar tissue. Overall a massage helps to keep the body in better condition, which may improve an athlete's performance and extend the longevity of his or her career.
To give a basic leg massage, begin at the ankle and work upwards over the hip then back down again. Always take care when treating the calves as they are usually tender, especially after exercising. Move up the ankles with the thumbs, stroking gently over the back of the knee. Use the heel of the hands to move up the thigh to the hip joint. For the calves and thighs, use a kneading motion.
