From 2006 to 2007, there was a rise in fatal auto accidents in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2006, Jacksonville saw 126 deadly car accidents, a number which rose to 145 in 2007. Unfortunately, the number of pedestrians hurt or killed in these auto accidents also rose from 29 to 40 during this two-year span. Approximately 39 of the car crashes in 2006 were caused by drunk drivers, while none of the 145 deadly car accidents in 2007 were alcohol-related. However, more than 4,000 alcohol-related car accidents occurred in Duval County during the past three years. In addition, nearly 600 Duval County residents had to be hospitalized after a motor vehicle accident in 2007 alone.
