Gilmore's Groin
Gilmore's groin is characterized by a tear in the adductor muscles, usually near the pubic bone. It is a common injury in soccer because of the amount of strain placed on the groin and pelvic area. Normally, this type of injury does not appear suddenly, but rather over time, making it an overuse injury. Symptoms include pain in the groin that is made worse by running, sprinting, and turning. After exercising, the area is stiff or sore, and any kind of turning motion is painful.
It is best to take a break from training when suffering from Gilmore's groin in order to prevent further injury to the area. Oftentimes, simple treatments, such as strengthening the pelvic muscles, make a difference, but sometimes surgery is necessary. Following surgery, rehabilitation usually takes four to six weeks and requires practicing a specific regimen that will improve the strength and flexibility of the pelvic muscles.
