Extensor Tendinopathy

Extensor tendinopathy is the inflammation of the tendons that run along the top of the foot, causing pain and swelling on top of the foot. The pain worsens during running or when stretched.

Extensor Tendinopathy can be caused by overuse and poor fitting shoes. Running up and down hills increases the strain on the ligament, along with running on icy or slippery surfaces. The best remedy is to always wear proper fitting shoes and rest and ice the affected area. Taking anti-inflammatory medication and adding padding to the forefoot of shoes will also help to relieve pressure on the area.
