- PASS device (Personal Alert Safety System)
- Handheld radio

Personal Protective Equipment varies in style or colors from department to department, but the general clothing worn by firefighters includes the following:
- Bunker gear (jacket and pants)
- NFPA-compliant, fire-resistant work gloves
- Fire-retardant and pathogen, chemical and water-resistant boots with steel toe and full length steel sole
- Nomex and Carbon hoods
- Helmet with face mask or visor
- Hazmat suit
- Class A uniform worn at formal department events and ceremonies
- Honor Guard uniform worn at formal department events and ceremonies
- Medical gear for protection against medical hazards while providing emergency medical assistance
- Crash rescue gear
- Wildland gear for brush or forest firefighting
