Disability Support Services

Not all of us can relate, but adjusting to life with a physical or mental disability is an unbelievably daunting endeavor. Many of these disabilities make it impossible to accomplish everyday tasks without assistance, but there are countless support services and pieces of equipment that foster or restore independence in the lives of these individuals.

Transportation is a key dilemma that numerous people with all kinds of disabilities face. Electric wheelchairs, prosthetic legs, and even wheelchair accessible vehicles fitted with alternative steering devices enable those with limited mobility to get around. Taxi services and public buses with wheelchair lifts offer people that do not have the capacity to operate an automobile the chance to travel locally and engage in activities that they may otherwise have missed.

Socialization is another essential component in the lives of the disabled. "Dayhab" services give them the opportunity to become involved in the community and associate with others. Related programs can be recreational or educational, and they play a very important role in maintaining the self-esteem of the participants. Special occupational provisions are also available to people with disabilities, giving them the chance to work hand-in-hand at a jobsite alongside fellow employees. However, a job coach may be available to provide them with personal guidance if the situation calls for it.

In the end, all of these amenities really encourage inclusion; helping someone with a disability lead as normal a life as possible will allow them to gain acceptance in mainstream society.
