The inside of your home, from your walls to your ceiling, is made out of drywall (also called wallboard). Between 2004 and 2006 there was a shortage in American drywall, and some builders imported their drywall from China. Chinese drywall differs from American gypsum drywall in that it contains a sulfur compound that is emitted into the air. The resulting sulfur gas can ruin air conditioner coils, corrode metals, and cause a "rotten egg" smell. There may also be health issues related to defective Chinese drywall.
