Construction Safety Clothing

Construction work is an occupation that demands the use of protective clothing and gear at all times. Personal protective equipment protects a worker from threats associated with hazardous conditions or harmful agents in the workplace.

All protective clothing and gear must, therefore, be provided free of charge to all employees, and all workers must be informed of how to properly use the equipment. Employers should not allow employees to work without the appropriate protective attire. The employer is also obligated to launder, maintain and decontaminate all protective gear used in the workplace.

Protective clothing and gear include:

  • Helmets
  • Equipment to prevent falls from high altitudes, including safety harnesses, auto-braking devices and safety lanyards
  • Goggles
  • Welding masks
  • Gloves
  • Boots with rubber soles (steel tips also help to protect damage to toes)
  • Ear stops and muffs and noise reduction helmets
  • Dust masks, filtration and absorption masks and air helmets
  • Rain coats
  • Leather aprons
  • Dust-resistant overalls
