There are several different types of rubber cones, including traffic cones, road cones, construction cones and pylons. All of these bright orange, yellow or red, conical markers are used to draw attention to changes in roads or footpaths and hazardous areas. Cones are designed to be easily moveable and highly visible, which is why many cones also have reflective strips.
During road construction, just as when there have been automobile accidents, cones are used to merge lanes, although larger, heavier, more permanent markers may also be used.
